"A spirited mind never stops within itself.
It is always aspiring and going beyond its strength."

ABOUT DARCI

I became interested in design as a child. My artistic mom would wax poetic about complementary colors, art and art history. I loved watching her paint. My dad's favorite hobby was photography and he had his own darkroom. He taught me the basics of photo composition and how to develop black and white photos. And my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Woodward, taught me calligraphy–the art of beautiful hand-lettering. These early influences sparked a lifelong passion for art, photography, hand-lettering/typography and design.

I started studying graphic design in high school and began doing freelance calligraphy projects–invitations, wedding announcements, certificates, nameplates, quotations, etc. So, it seemed natural that I would study graphic art in college to prepare for a career in design. Which I did, until I discovered the humanities and the field of communication. It was here I met great thinkers like Michel de Montaigne, and committed to living a life with a "spirited mind."

I earned a B.A. in communication at the University of Arizona, with a minor in humanities, and then went on to the University of Georgia where I earned a master's in communication as well. While in Georgia, I taught speech and fell in love with the spoken word.

Over many years now, I've honed my writing, strategy, design, photography, web development and social media skills. I'd be delighted to help you with your communication needs. Let's chat!
